China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the "Company") was formerly known as the China Petrochemical Corporation, established in July 1983. In July 1998, in accordance with the Party Central Committee's deployment of strategic restructuring of the petroleum and petrochemical industry, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation was restructured and established based on the original China Petrochemical Corporation. In August 2018, it was reorganized into China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Limited. The Company is a super-large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group, with a registered capital of RMB 326.5 billion. The chairman serves as the legal representative, and its headquarters is located in Beijing. The Company exercises the rights of an investor, including the right to benefit from assets, make major decisions, and select managers, over its wholly-owned, controlled, and equity-invested enterprises' relevant state-owned assets. It operates, manages, and supervises state-owned assets in accordance with the law and assumes the corresponding responsibility for preserving and increasing their value.
The Company's main business scope includes: industrial investment and investment management; exploration, development, storage, transportation (including pipeline transportation), sales, and comprehensive utilization of oil and natural gas; coal production, sales, storage, and transportation; petroleum refining; storage, transportation, wholesale, and retail of refined oil products; production, sales, storage, and transportation of petrochemicals, natural gas chemicals, coal chemicals, and other chemical products; production, sales, storage, and transportation of new energy, geothermal energy, and other energy products; exploration, design, consultation, construction, and installation of petroleum and petrochemical engineering; inspection and maintenance of petroleum and petrochemical equipment; research and development, manufacturing, and sales of electromechanical equipment; production and sales of electricity, steam, water, and industrial gases; research, development, application, and consulting services for technology, e-commerce, information, and alternative energy products; self-operated and agency import and export of related goods and technologies; foreign engineering contracting, bidding and procurement, labor export; international warehousing and logistics services, etc.
Currently, the Company is China's largest supplier of refined oil and petrochemical products and the second largest oil and gas producer. It is the world's largest oil refiner and the second largest chemical company. It has the second largest number of gas stations in the world and ranked 2nd in the Fortune Global 500 in 2020.
